Your adventure starts in the vibrant city of Cape Town with a stay in the heart of the city’s most sought after area, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. This ideally located hotel is just a short hop, skip and a jump to some of the Cape’s most popular attractions. A visit to South Africa just isn’t complete without a stop in Cape Town with its breathtaking scenery, adventure, theatre, nightlife, restaurants, beaches and culture, and on this itinerary you can get to know the city in the safe hands of a knowledgeable guide but also have the freedom to explore at your own leisure.
Then it’s time for a ‘Big Five’ safari with 6 nights at Makutsi Safari Springs, located in the greater Kruger area. Your daily activities here are wonderfully varied, with game drives on the private reserve, as well as in the Kruger National Park and an excursion to visit the awe inspiring Blyde River Canyon. Several stops will be made along the way to take photographs and marvel at the region’s picturesque scenery, including the Bourke's Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels Viewpoint overlooking the Blyde Dam.
Your journey comes to an end in Johannesburg, where you will have the opportunity to explore the historical sites of Soweto. Visit the formal migrant workers’ hostel and meet the families that live in Soweto today. Cycle through the vibrant community of Meadowlands, and continue to the Hector Pieterson Memorial, the historical landmark of the 1976 student's uprising, proceed to the famous Vilakazi street where Nelson Mandela used to live. Cycle back to Lebo's where you are invited to taste a home brewed beer and learning more about African customs and traditions.
Day 1 - Cape Town
The Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town is situated in the heart of the city’s most sought-after areas. Being a short walk away from the famous V&A Waterfront and other Cape Town sights is just the start of this iconic accommodation landmark’s appeal. Postcard views of the harbour and of Signal Hill are rivalled only by the stylish, inviting presence of the hotel itself. Recently refurbished, the award-winning Cape Town hotel offers 537 beautifully-appointed rooms, with a host of amenities and services on offer, including free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, a fully-equipped fitness centre and an outdoor pool.
Day 2 - Cape Town
After breakfast at your hotel your will be collected and commence a half day City and Table Mountain Tour. (B)
The tour commences with a tour of Table Mountain (weather permitting; cable car fee not included). Enjoy panoramic views over the Mother City and the Atlantic Seaboard with Robben Island in the distance lying sleepily in Table Bay harbour.
In the city itself, stop at the Company Gardens. Enjoy a walk through the garden and a visit to the South African Museum. This is followed by a visit to the Castle of Good Hope. Built between 1666 and 1679 by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) as a maritime replenishment station, the Castle of Good Hope is the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa. The drive through the city centre would also take you past the Houses of Parliament, the Grand Parade and City Hall from where Nelson Mandela first addressed South Africans after his release in February 1990. Return to your hotel upon completion of the tour.
Day 3 to Day 4 - Cape Town
Spend two full days at leisure in the Mother City. (B)
Day 5 - Makutsi Game Reserve
This morning you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to the airport for your flight to the Kruger area (not included in costing). (B)
On arrival you will be met and transferred to your Safari accommodation.
Between the Drakensberg Mountains and the Kruger National Park on the banks of the Makutsi River, lies the family owned and managed Makutsi Safari Springs. It is raw African bush enjoyed by people who appreciate the peace and serenity of nature – palms and acacias, elephants, rhinos, giraffe, crocodiles, lions, cheetah, leopard and bushveld. Soft thermal-mineral water bubbles from two hot springs, nestling among indigenous trees. The food is a healthy variety of venison specialities, home grown vegetables and home bred beef.
Please note: The sequence of this itinerary is subject to change, you will get your final itinerary on the day of your arrival at Makutsi Safari Springs.
Meal inclusions at Makutsi Safari Springs are based on a half board basis – breakfast and dinner with simple home-style cooking. Breakfast is a buffet style which includes a selection of fresh seasonal fruits, cereals/muesli, egg orders as you like them, toast, coffee/tea etc. Dinner is a 3-course set-menu. It is important to note that no snacks (e.g. crackers, chips, nuts, chocolate etc.) are available for purchase at the Camp. Should you wish to have these additional snack supplies, it is recommended they are purchased in Cape Town before your departure. On your full day excursions lunch will be taken a local restaurant (at own expense) and on days when you are in Camp, lunch will be available from the Camp canteen (at own expense). Examples of lunch options available include sandwiches, salads, spaghetti, pies, quiche etc. as well as a selection of cakes (lunch costs range from R15 to R50 per meal).
Day 6 - Makutsi Game Reserve
Awake early at sunrise, and head out on a morning game drive in an open safari vehicle before breakfast. Your ranger will take you out in search of rhino, crocodile, elephant, lion, zebra, giraffe, cheetah, wild dogs and many other smaller creatures. After breakfast enjoy some leisure time at the lodge. Mid afternoon depart for another game drive before returning in time for a sundowner drink before dinner. (BD)
Day 7 - Kruger National Park
An early morning is in store today for a full day of game viewing in the world famous Kruger National Park itself. The early hours of the day are used for finding as much game as possible. Your guide will take a picnic style breakfast along, and a stop is made at one of the many rest areas where breakfast is served. The morning continues with more game exploration until lunchtime, when you stop at one of the camps located within the Kruger National Park for lunch (at own expense). This afternoon continue on for more exciting game viewing before returning to the lodge late afternoon. (BD)
Day 8 - Makutsi Game Reserve
This morning enjoy some leisure time – the warm mineral pools or your own private safari while sitting on your terrace, reading a book. You will embark mid afternoon for a 5-hour game drive on the reserve. Around sunset, light snacks and drinks will be enjoyed during a short sundowner break, before continuing your safari in search of the nocturnal animals, and finally returning for dinner at the lodge. Day 9 - Drakenburg Mountains & Blyde River Canyon
After breakfast, depart for a day of sightseeing in the breathtaking Drakensberg Mountains and Blyde River Canyon. Several stops will be made along the way to take photographs and marvel at the region’s picturesque scenery, including the Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the Three Rondavels Viewpoint overlooking the Blyde Dam. A lunch stop will be made (at own expense) before returning to Makutsi late afternoon. Today there may be opportunities to purchase locally made crafts and curios along the way. (BD)
Day 10 - Makutsi Game Reserve
Today you can choose your final game drive either morning or afternoon on the reserve, and the remainder of the day is for relaxing in the pool, reading on your terrace or visiting the Hippo Hide… let Africa take care of you! (BD)
Day 11 – Johannesburg
After breakfast you will be transferred back to the Airport for your flight to Johannesburg. (B)
On arrival in Johannesburg you will be met and transferred to your accommodation.

Day 12 - End of your Cape Town & South African Safari
Today is your last day on this tour. After breakfast you will check out of your hotel and be collected for a 2 hour Lebos Soweto Bicycle Tour. (B)
A shorter tour of Soweto that will take you to some of the most interesting historical sites around Soweto. Visit the formal migrant workers’ hostel and be introduced to conditions of male mine workers and meet the families that live here today. Cycle through the vibrant community of Meadowlands, and continue to the Hector Pieterson Memorial, the historical landmark of the 1976 student’s uprising, proceed to the famous Vilakazi street where Nelson Mandela used to live. Cycle back to Lebo’s where you are invited to taste a home brewed beer and learning more about African customs and traditions.
After the Bicycle Tour you will be dropped at the airport for your onward arrangements. Your departing flight should be booked for after 17h00 to allow for the return time of the bicycle tour.
