This award-winning safari combines all the best aspects of a Kenyan safari. The Great Kenya Safari offers you the opportunity to experience the world-famous Masai Mara, the colourful birds of Lake Nakuru, the majestic vistas of Mount Kilimanjaro, the clear water springs at Mzima Springs in Tsavo West and witness herds of ochre-red elephants in Tsavo East National Park. Immerse yourself in eight days of wildlife on a scheduled small group safari through Kenya, with a maximum of seven passengers per vehicle.
Expert Tip: Travel in the dry season to see huge herds of elephants visiting the water hole at Satao Camp, in Tsavo East National Park.
Day 1 – Nairobi
On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Nairobi, where you will be accommodated overnight.
A haven in the city, this Nairobi hotel is ideally located next to the Parliament building and walking distance to Kenyatta International Convention Centre and the government hub. The hotel is the ideal choice for discerning travellers boasting an award winning Indian restaurant – Bhandini, a dine by the pool restaurant, coffee shop and bars. Explore attractions close to the hotel whether it is handmade African artifacts at Maasai market or the beautiful Nairobi National Park.
Day 2 - Masai Mara Game Reserve
This morning after breakfast, you will be met by your guide where you will commence your safari. You will drive past the extinct Volcano of Mt Longonot and Suswa into the homelands of the Masai. After lunch at the Mara Sopa Lodge you will have the opportunity to observe the unique world of the Masai Mara. (BLD)
Masai Mara Sopa Lodge is set in the Oloolaimutia Valley, where the lodge totally blends in perfectly with its surrounding hillside landscape. The lodge has 86 rooms, 12 suites and one presidential suite, all of which have en-suite bathroom facilities with hairdryers. Every room and suite has a private, elevated veranda with views across the valley and on which guests can relax, sunbathe and watch resident birds and wildlife. Minibars are also available in each room. The lodge has a freeform, freshwater pool which offers spectacular views over the valley.
Day 3 - Masai Mara Game Reserve
Today you will spend a full day on a game drive that takes you through the vast plains of the Masai Mara searching for the ‘Big Five’. Return to the Mara Sopa Lodge for lunch. (BLD)
Day 4 - Lake Nakuru National Park
This morning you will travel to Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its flamingos and pelicans. The park also boasts a good number of rhinos as well as leopard and lion. After lunch enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park. (BLD)
Located on a range of hills that form the western limits of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, the lodge offers spectacular views over the vastness of Africa. The lodge also overlooks Lake Nakuru and its surrounding National Park, one that is a paradise for bird watchers and wildlife lovers alike. Lake Nakuru National Park is mainly a wooded and bushy grassland with a wide ecological diversity and characteristic habitats that range from the lake waters to the escarpment and ridges.
Day 5 - Amboseli National Park
Today your day begins with an early morning game drive through the Lake Nakuru National Park. After breakfast drive a short distance back to Nairobi for lunch in the very popular Carnivore Restaurant. After lunch drive to Amboseli National Park, where you can enjoy the beautiful view of Mount Kilimanjaro. (BLD)
Set in 200 acres of private land, and with a rustic charm all of its own, the lodge nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at almost six thousand metres, is Africa’s highest and most famous snowcapped mountain. It was this region of Kenya that, in the 1930’s, inspired Ernest Hemingway’s unforgettable stories ‘The Snows of Kilimanjaro’ and ‘The Short, Happy Life of Francis Macomber’ which were turned into more than successful feature films in the late 1940’s due to their renowned actors. All forms of wildlife still abound in this wilderness which continues all the way to the Amboseli National Park, an easy twenty minute drive away from the lodge.
While the park conserves over six hundred breeding species of birds as well a host of rare and wonderful wildlife, this is also home to the Maasai people, perhaps the world’s most renowned African tribe.
Day 6 - Tsavo West National Park
After breakfast you will have the opportunity for a full morning game drive in Amboseli National park. Lunch at the lodge then depart for Tsavo West in the afternoon with game drive en route. During the drive you pass the amazing Lava flows of the Shetani rocks. (BLD)
With a spectacular view of mystical Mount Kilimanjaro, and easy access to the wild attractions of Tsavo West National Park, Voyager Ziwani offers a tranquil retreat in one of the wildest places left on Earth. Located on a private sanctuary on the western edge of Tsavo, the camp sits on a secluded dam on the Sante River – home to turtles, crocodiles and hundreds of basking hippos.
Day 7 - Tsavo East National Park
Today we start the day with an early morning game drive before breakfast. After breakfast visit Mzima Springs and enjoy another game drive. After lunch at the Kilaguni Serena Lodge drive to Tsavo East National Park with a game drive en route. (BLD)
Nestled amongst trees and surrounding a central water-hole, the semi-circular layout of the camp provides an excellent viewing point for each of the guests. Satao Camp has 20 tents, all e-suite, thoughtfully positioned to ensure a full view of the camps “own” watering hole. The tents are exquisite; all are attractively furnished with locally made beds and unique African designs. Each spacious tent has a private bathroom with running water. The suites have authentic antique writing desks and beautiful African bed and cushion covers. Day 8 - End of Great Kenya Safari Tour
This is your last chance so don’t miss out on the early morning game drive before breakfast. Return to the lodge where you depart for Mombasa, where your safari comes to an end. (B)
