Day 1 - South Luangwa National Park
On arrival into Lusaka Airport you will be met and assisted through immigration and customs and through to the domestic terminal for check in onto Proflight for your scheduled flight to Mfuwe Airport, just outside South Luangwa National Park. The flight is one hour 10 minutes, and on arrival at Mfuwe Airport you will be met by a representative from Norman Carr Safaris, and will be transferred by road to your first Bushcamp. Transfer time will be between 2 – 3 hours, depending on which bushcamp you start your itinerary at, and game seen en route. (D)
Bordering the Luangwa River, the northern and southern Luangwa National Parks contain some of the most breathtaking and untouched wilderness in Africa. As a result of this and the parks’ successful anti-poaching campaigns, the area has developed into a world-renowned wildlife haven. The South Luangwa National Park is renowned for its walking safari, which allows visitors to view elephant, hippo and even lion close-up under the supervision of professional and knowledgeable armed guides.
Below is an outline of the bushcamps where you will possibly stay in South Luangwa. Order and number of nights may vary and will be communicated to you 2 weeks prior to travel.
Day 2 to Day 4 - South Luangwa National Park
Your days will be spent exploring this area of the park predominantly on foot. All guided walks are accompanied by an armed National Parks Scout. During the day between activities you will have the chance to relax in camp and watch any birds or animals in the camp vicinity. (BLD)
Day 5 - Lower Zambezi
Today you will depart the South Luangwa National Park and fly to Jeki Airstrip just outside the Lower Zambezi National Park via Lusaka. The flight time from Mfuwe to Lusaka is one hour 10 minutes, where you will have a short wait, followed by a 30 minute flight to Lower Zambezi. On arrival at Jeki Airstrip you will be met by a guide from Chongwe River Lodge and transferred the short distance to the lodge. (BLD)
The Lower Zambezi National Park is the newest of Zambia’s exceptional, undeveloped wildlife areas. And together with Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools Reserve the area provides a massive transfronteir wildlife sanctuary. Most activities are concentrated along the Zambezi as this is what draws the animals and aside from game drives and walking safaris the area offers canoe trips and tiger fishing.
Accommodation: 3 nights Chongwe River Camp.
Located in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi Valley in the Chiawa Partnership Park (GMA), that borders the Lower Zambezi National Park, is one of the most established Lower Zambezi camps: Chongwe River Camp. This tented camp is nestled along the riverbank beneath a canopy of winterthorns (impressive tortuous trees) at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chongwe Rivers. Boasting breathtaking views and, quite often, elephants wandering the camp, this lodge has all the qualities to make you instantly fall in love with it.
Day 6 to Day 7 - Lower Zambezi
Spend the days in this wonderful bush and river setting with leopards, lions, elephants, hippos and other wildlife as your neighbours. Explore the National Park by boat, canoe, on foot or in game drive vehicles. (BLD)
Day 8 - End of Norman Carr Walking Safari
The lodge team will advise you of your departure time from camp today for your drive back to Jeki Airstrip and your scheduled flight to Lusaka for your outgoing international flight and onward travels. (B)
