This affordable horse riding safari offers close encounters with wildlife in an unspoilt part of the country. Motswiri Camp operates exclusively on 48,000 hectares of the magnificent and world-renowned Selinda Spillway, which links the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti Swamps. The camp offers a diverse range of activities but is best known for its riding safaris. Motswiri has its own stable of well-schooled safari horses, all accustomed to riding in big game areas. There are no more than six guests to a group, accompanied by a lead and back-up guide. With up to six hours spent in the saddle per day riding competency is a requirement.
Day 1 - Okavango Delta
On arrival at Maun Airport you will be met and introduced to the pilot who will fly you to Motswiri Camp. The flying time is approximately 45 minutes. (D)
Motswiri Camp is a small 10-bedded camp built in an ancient Leadwood grove on the banks of the western Selinda Spillway where the perennial floods of the Okavango bring with them the myriad of life that is characteristic of this river. The camp operates as an “adventure safari” camp, offering walking safaris, horse riding safaris, canoeing and mekoro safaris (depending on flood level & duration), game drives & night drives. Game viewing is excellent in the area, and due to the remoteness of the camp, very exclusive.
Day 2 to Day 3 - Okavango Delta
Enjoy your time with the activities provided by the camp. RAW Botswana is an activity-based camp offering great flexibility to satisfy all guests’ choice of activity; including horseback safaris, walking trails, game drives, mokoro cruises, canoeing, motorised boating safaris, fishing, and bird watching in the inimitable Selinda Reserve. (BLD)
Riding safaris are fine-tuned and highly professional with specially acclimatised horses and guides. There are not more than 6 guests to a group, accompanied by a lead and back-up guide. Riding competency is a requirement, and riders must be older than 12.
Walking trails suit groups of 6 guests or less and offers great opportunities for nature photography. This activity is about tracking, searching for wildlife, bird watching, detailed study of flora and fauna, and can be interspersed with fishing and swimming. Guides will tailor the walking trails to suit guests’ interests.
All activities are available in both the mornings and afternoons, during the coolest and most scenic parts of day. The daily schedule depends on the guests’ activity choice combinations and seasonal availability of activities. June to August are the wettest months of the year due to the expected arrival of the flood waters from Angola, which might mean less availability of land-based activities, such as game drives. There is no set departure time, so the schedule is flexible. Horseback safaris include up to 6 hours in the saddle, broken up by refreshment stops. Selinda Reserve offers some of the most exquisite scenery and memorable experiences through all the activities on offer. Three meals and 3-course dinners are provided each day, while plenty of time can be taken to relax in the spacious lodge areas and enjoy the view.
Day 4 - End of your Botswana Horse Riding Safari
This morning after breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Maun Airport. The flying time is approximately 45 minutes. On arrival at Maun Airport you will continue with your own arrangements. (B)
