Trip Summary
This unique 15-day train journey travels through Tanzania, Zambia, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola traversing the African continent from the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. Beginning in Dar es Salaam you will travel through Tanzania and with stops at Fuga Halt, on the border of Mikumi National Park, enjoy game drives in Selous Game Reserve, the largest in Africa at 55 000km². After crossing into Zambia you visit Mpika and then a two night stay in South Luangwa National Park to enjoy game viewing and activities. After your lodge stay you cross into the Democratic Republic of the Congo which is only beginning to open up to tourism and offers a diverse and unique opportunity that many travellers will not experience. Leaving the DRC you cross into Angola with stops at Luena, Kuito, Huambo and Caimbambo before arriving at Lobito on the Atlantic Coast.
Please note: During the day, dress accordingly for game drives/excursions: mornings can be cool then warm up considerably; afternoons can be warm then cool down considerably. Warm clothing, hats and sun protection are advised. Rain capes are available. Attire that is more formal is worn in the evenings. For gentlemen a jacket and tie is a minimum requirement while for ladies we suggest cocktail/evening dresses or suits.
Royal Cabin
The Royal Cabin, each of which take up half a carriage, are spacious and elegant measuring ±16 sq metres in size. Each has its own private lounge area and full bathroom with Victorian bath and separate shower. The epitome of luxury with handsome wood panelling and period Edwardian features, the air-conditioned suites accommodate two people offering the option of side-by-side twin or spacious double beds. In the en-suite bathrooms, original fittings combine with the modern technology of hot showers, hair dryers and shaver plugs. The very spacious cabins offer passengers the opportunity to travel in privacy, comfort and luxury, with fittings and facilities that are of the highest standard. All are equipped with a writing surface and a personal safe for valuables. There is also a bar fridge filled with beverages of the passengers’ choice and room service is available 24 hours a day.

Day 1 - Luxury Train Journey
12h00 – The train departs Dar es Salaam and travels the TAZARA line. Guests may freshen up in their cabins. (LD)
13h00 – Lunch is served in the dining cars. The train travels the fertile lands of Tanzania towards the Selous Reserve.
16h30 – Tea is served in the lounge and observation car.
19h30 – Dinner is served in the dining cars enroute to Fuga Halt.Overnight onboard at Fuga Halt.Accommodation: 12 nights onboard the Rovos Rail.

19h30 – Dinner is served in the dining cars enroute to Mlimba.Day 3 - Luxury Train Journey
07h00 – Breakfast is served until 10h00 as the train ascends the escarpment negotiating the dramatic switchbacks, viaducts and tunnels. (BLD)
09h00 – Arrive at Makambako where guests may enjoy a stroll through the town (time permitting).
13h00 – Lunch is served in the dining cars as the train passes Baobabs forests.
16h30 – Tea is served in the lounge car and observation car.
19h30 – Dinner is served in the dining cars enroute to Tunduma.Day 4 - -Luxury Train Journey
07h00 – Breakfast is served until 10h00. Tanzania and Zambian border formalities take place. (BLD)
13h00 – Lunch is served in the dining car as the train travels in a south-westerly direction across Zamibia.
14h30 – Disembark at Kasama for an excursion to Chisimba Falls.
18h00 – Return to train and depart Kasama.
19h30 – Dinner is served in the dining cars enroute to Mpika.
Tonight you will pack a small overnight bag for the two-night stay at the game lodge. For your convenience, bags are placed in your cabin. Please note that beverages, phone calls and laundry are for your own account. Wi-Fi and spa facilities available (bookings essential). 10h00 – Disembark and transfer to Mpika Airport for a chartered flight to the South Luangwa National Park.
12h00 – Transfer to Mfuwe Lodge. Lunch to be enjoyed on arrival followed by check-in.
15h30 – Afternoon game drive in the Luangwa Valley.

10h00 – Transfer to Mfuwe Airport for your flight to Ndola, Zamibia.
12h00 – On arrival you will be transfer to Ndola station to re-join the train.
13h00 – Lunch is served in the dining cars as the train travels towards Misundu.
15h00 – Arrive at Sakania for the Zambian/DRC border formalities.
16h30 – Tea is served in the lounge car and observation car.
19h30 – Dinner is served in the dining cars enroute to Mushoshi.Day 8 - Luxury Train Journey

10h30 – Disembark the train for a city tour of Lubumbashi.

13h00 – Lunch is served in the dining cars as the train departs for Luena.
16h30 – Tea is served as the train travels alongside the Kasai River. The catchment of the Kasai River encompasses a vast eco-region of 900 000 km2 with an incredibly rich fish fauna. As the train passes the villages of Cassai and Cameia there is sometimes an opportunity to see the local fisherman at work.
19h30 – Dinner is served in the dining cars enroute to Luena.Day 12 - Luxury Train Journey

10h00 – Learn more about the recent history of Angola on a walking tour of Luena.
12h00 – Depart and travel towards Tchicala Tcholohanga.
