There are two magnificent lodges at Royal Chundu - River Lodge and Island Lodge, Zambia’s first and only Relais & Châteaux member, located on a stretch of private waterway 30 minutes from the Victoria Falls. The main lodge offers 10 luxurious thatched, river facing suites, while Island Lodge offers more exclusivity with only four villas. Exquisitely decorated, both lodges reflect a bygone era of comfort in the wild. Adventures are on offer, from water activities and game drives, to simply being pampered at the spa.
Day 1 - Livingstone
On arrival at Livingstone Airport you will be met for your scheduled road transfer to Royal Chundu. (LD)
Royal Chundu is a sanctum of quiet solitude and untouched beauty and the first Relais & Châteaux property in Zambia. The two luxurious lodges are situated on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, just upstream from the magnificent Victoria Falls on a 15km stretch of private waterway which is protected by two sets of rapids. Royal Chundu was created in complete harmony with its natural surroundings and embraces the tradition and geography of the area while incorporating stylish and sophisticated accommodation, world class service and sumptuous pan-African cuisine. River Lodge is the main hub at Royal Chundu and the larger of the two lodges. There are 10 magnificent and spacious river-front suites at River Lodge. Each suite has a double shower, air-conditioning, a fan, mosquito nets, a king-size bed and a generous deck with excellent views of the surroundings. There is a beautiful boma for outdoor evening meals, a library, wine cellar, business centre, satellite TV, dining room and complimentary WIFI. Island Lodge is the more private and exclusive of the two lodges at Royal Chundu. Located on Katambura Private Island, the lodge is surrounded by gentle river channels and dotted with Baobabs and two thousand year old Jackelberry trees. There are four magnificent villas at Island Lodge. Each villa has a spectacular deck, a large open-air bath, a glass-walled double shower as well as air-conditioning, a fan, mosquito net and a king-size, extra-length bed. There is an intimate boma area for outdoor evening meals, two lounges, a dining room, private dining decks, an infinity pool as well as complimentary WIFI. Activities include, daily sunset boat cruise, fishing (equipment provided – catch & release – seasonal activity), 1 x Tour of Falls on the Zambian side – U$ 20 per person entry included – subject to change, Guided nature walks and island picnic lunch (seasonal), Guided canoeing trip subject to water levels and hippo activity and Birding Safari.
