This spectacular fly/drive safari allows you to explore Tanzania’s best reserves and parks in style. Experience a journey of contrast from the rich game plains of the famous Serengeti National Park to the unique environment of the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the salt pans of Lake Manyara National Park.
Day 1 - Lake Manyara National Park
Meet your guide for lunch in Arusha before driving to Lake Manyara National Park. (LD)
Standing high on the edge of a towering terracotta escarpment with panoramic views over the glittering alkaline waters of Lake Manyara, Lake Manyara Serena Lodge offers a unique blend of tranquility, wildlife discovery and ornithological richness. Grouped around a central ‘vanishing horizon’ pool, this highly unusual lodge features a simple timbered reception area, built in traditional African style, which is accessed via a bridge over a small stream. Beyond reception, lies the central dining room, bar and veranda, below which lies the pool. Perched on the very edge of the cliffs, with stunning views over the lake is the pool bar and observation point. Dotted around the grounds, all with views over the lake are a series of circular two-storey ‘rondavels’, which house the 67 rooms.
Day 2 - Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Enjoy a morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park. After lunch drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. (BLD)
Known as ‘the eighth wonder of the world’ the Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s best-known wildlife arenas. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it offers a unique biosphere, which has remained virtually unchanged since the dawn of time. Deep within the Crater, enclosed by towering walls, an abundance of wildlife wanders the plains, lakes and forests of ‘the land that time forgot’. This unique lodge clings to the rim of the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, one of the largest and most perfect volcanic crater’s on earth. The lodge, with 75 rock built rooms with panoramic views, is built from local river stone and camouflaged with indigenous vines. Designed to blend completely into the landscape, it is entirely invisible from the floor of the Crater 600 metres below.
Day 3 - Ngorongoro Conservation Area
This morning after breakfast drive to the Ngorongoro Crater Park entry and descend to the floor below. Covering over 250 sq kms of land this is the home to the rare black rhino, lion, elephant, cheetah and great herds of buffalo, antelope, warthog and wildebeest. Explore the forest and Lake Makati areas where you may see flamingos and open savannah. Enjoy a picnic lunch, returning to the lodge late afternoon. (BLD)
Day 4 - Serengeti National Park
This morning after breakfast drive through the hilly landscape and onto the plains of the Serengeti. Visit the Ol’Duvai Gorge enroute, site of the famous archaeological finds by the Leakey family. Here in the ‘cradle of mankind’ the skull of a human being was found believed to be the oldest ever at 1.75 million years of age. Once inside the Park, enjoy game viewing on the way to camp. (BLD)
Scenically located in a glade, known as ‘the place of the klipspringer’ (mbuzi mawe), and guarded by three million year-old granite towers, this luxury tented-camp in the Serengeti is unique. Cleverly located on one of the main annual migration corridors for over one million wildebeest, half a million zebras and gazelles, and their accompanying cast of predators it is also located at the very epicentre of one of the world’s most famous national parks.
Day 5 to Day 6 - Serengeti National Park
Full days of game viewing in the Serengeti National Park. (BLD)
